Corporate License

When a corporation license is in good standing for five of the past seven years, officers listed on the license, during this same period, are eligible for a waiver of the State examination. Regardless of what you have been told or assume, the waiver applies to any one or all of the trade classifications listed on the license. Also, to replace an RME/RMO, any key employee continually employed by the corporation, in a supervisory capacity for five of the past seven years, may also be eligible for a waiver of the examination.

Consider some of the possibilities:

  • Replace an RME/RMO by taking control.
  • Plan for retirement with a replacement.
  • Selling the license to a qualified individual.
  • Reissue (transfer) the license to a qualified individual.
  • Protecting the license with a back-up RME/RMO.
  • Qualifying officers/women for minority contracting projects.
  • Operating union and non-union companies.
  • Above all, acquiring an individual license.

Corporation Family Member Waiver

Family member listed on a corporate license

After 5 years when the controlling interest of the corporation is owned by the family, a family member listed on the license may request a waiver of the examination for the same classifications as listed on the license.

Officers of Corporation Waiver

Officers listed on a corporation license

After 5 years, providing the license has been active and in good standing, any one corporate officer listed on the license, actively engaged in the trades conducted by the company is eligible to request a waiver of the examination as the qualifying individual of the corporation. Thereafter, the qualifying individual may apply for a personal license or qualify another individual or firm.

Employee of Corporation Waiver

Key employee of a corporation not listed on the license

After 5 years, an individual who is not listed on the corporation license (a key employee) continually employed in a supervisory capacity, in the same classifications as listed on the license for not less than five years, may request a waiver of the examination for the qualifying individual’s position. Thereafter, upon approval, the applicant may also apply for an original license as an individual, partnership or a corporation.
